IT’S DONE: Dembele pens new Barcelona deal as Laporta admits ‘this is very emotional’

Ousmane Dembele is delighted to have signed a new contract with Barcelona.

The attacker has penned a new deal to 2024 and was presented to the local media this morning.

Dembele said, “I am very happy with the renewal. Barça has been the club of my dreams since I was little.

“I am looking forward to the start of the season to help the team.”

He continued: “In the club there are many people who have helped me a lot. The first three years were very difficult for me . Now I have the confidence of everyone and I am much better.

“Staying was always my first option. I told the president and the coach. It’s been a long time, but now everyone is happy. I’m looking forward to the season starting. To give everything and help the team win titles. Barça has to fight for the Liga and the Champions League. Winning the Champions League is a dream for me and I’m going to give everything to achieve it.”

Barca president Joan Laporta also said: “I admire Dembélé for his quality as a player and as a person. Today is a very important day for Barça. He has always wanted to stay and the truth is that he has made an effort to enter the new salary scale.

“I am very grateful to everyone who has worked for Dembélé’s continuity: Mateu [Germany], Jordi [Cruyff], Ousmane and Moussa Sissoko.

“Dembélé has incomparable talent, very specific. He brings us a lot. Xavi has loved him from the first moment. This year is very important, we have to win trophies. I am convinced that we will achieve it. Today is a very emotional day for me. The coach loves you, but so does the club.”
