The Steelers are assisting local authorities in their investigation into the death of a spectator at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday. Local paramedics attended to a guy who had fallen off an escalator inside the complex minutes after the team’s 24-20 loss to the Jets, according to the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety.
Pittsburgh Police and emergency workers were called around 4:45 p.m. ET, soon after the game had ended, and offered onsite care before taking the adult man to a nearby hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. The man died in the hospital as a result of his injuries from the accident.

The victim’s identity has not been revealed, nor has there been any indication of what caused the escalator fall. The Mobile Crime Unit of Pittsburgh Police has subsequently responded to “process the scene,” according to the agency, and VCU detectives have began investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, the Steelers issued the following statement to the Associated Press: “Today, a regrettable occurrence occurred inside Acrisure Stadium. We are assisting local authorities in their inquiry. We are thinking of and praying for the guest’s family.”
This is not the first catastrophic accident with escalators in NFL stadiums. In 2021, an escalator mishap at the Patriots’ Gillette Stadium hospitalized nine people, and just last August, a woman died after falling from an escalator inside the Broncos’ Empower Field at Mile High.
