It was a brief night in Las Vegas thanks to Khamzat Chiamev. In the co-main event of UFC 279 on Saturday, Chimaev ignored the loud jeers from the fans inside T-Mobile Arena and submitted Kevin Holland in the opening frame.
A physical conflict backstage between Chimaev and Holland during Fight Week resulted in the cancellation of Thursday’s pre-fight news conference by UFC president Dana White.
As soon as the fight began, Chimaev leaned into his specialty by starting an explosive takedown. Chimaev hung on as Holland repeatedly rolled past. Observing the numerous cycles on the ground was thrilling. Chimaev clung to Holland and steadily strengthened his position. At 2:13 of Round 1, a D’arce choke gave Chimaev the submission victory. Chimaev did not take a single punch in the bout against Holland, making it the fourth time in the UFC’s history that he has accomplished this accomplishment.
Say something at once! During his post-fight interview, Chimaev remarked. “I’m the most perilous person here. I will murder everyone!”
Chimaev was questioned by Rogan over his huge weight loss, which caused three fights on the UFC 279 main card to be rescheduled. Prior to weighing in at 178.5 pounds for a combat contested at a maximum of 171 pounds, Chimaev was supposed to headline a welterweight fight against Nate Diaz. Chimaev answered right away and succinctly.
“That nonsense doesn’t bother me. I murdered him!” Chimaev explained.
Chimaev improved to 12-0 overall and has six victories inside the Octagon. He is presently the No. 3 welterweight contender in the UFC and has competed twice at middleweight throughout his career with the organization.
